5 Best Cruise Tips for Couples
Our 5 Top Tips for Couples Cruising
February is the season of love. So, this month we’re bringing you the best cruise tips for couples looking for a fun vacation, second honeymoon, or a romantic get-away. Why are cruises so great for couples? Not only do you get to visit an exotic location and go on adventures via shore excursions, but you also don’t need to worry about distractions like phone calls or emails. And while many people might suggest a more targeted cruise lines or experience, like a South Pacific cruise or sailing on Princess cruises, our tips are perfect for any port – including Port Canaveral’s Caribbean cruises! So if romance is in the air for you and your partner, take a look at what Park N Cruise is suggesting this month. Your romantic cruise vacation will be perfect if you follow these five tips!
1. Book at the Best Time
What’s the number one (and two) mood killer for most people? Children and crowds! While children are wonderful, it’s hard to have a relaxing couples’ experience with children screaming, running underfoot, or putting a damper on the mood. There are a few ways to minimize how many children will be on your cruise, one of which is the time of year that you book your cruise.
The top times for parents to take children on cruises will be during breaks and long weekend, so avoid booking during spring break season, summer break season, Christmas season, Thanksgiving, or national holidays. While this may sound like a lot of time to cut out of the calendar for potential cruising, it’s worth it if you’re not fond of children and teenagers hanging out on your couples’ vacation.
2. Make It the Right Cruise Length for You
This second tip also helps you focus on your optimal cruise crowd – like less children or a more rambunctious set of shipmates! Different cruise lengths have different benefits, so you should schedule a cruise that is going to get you the best crowd for you and your partner. The right crowd can make or break a perfect cruise. We prefer longer cruises so that you can have mostly adults only – less children on the ship for your date nights. Parents hate taking kids out of school for longer than necessary – so weekend cruises are extremely popular for parents and kids. However, a weekend cruise can be good for two things.
One, it won’t have as much of an older crowd – good if you’re young and looking to make new friends on your cruise. And two, if you haven’t gone on a cruise with your partner before, it might be good to test the waters on a shorter cruise to make sure that the isolation and ship-bound fun doesn’t make you stir-crazy or cramped. Don’t worry – a cruise ship vacation isn’t the best idea for all couples, but we always recommend trying it out at least once. You could love it and end up coming back again and again!
3. Look Closely at the Ship Entertainment
When you’re cruising, every night is a date night. With so much entertainment on board the ship, it’s wonderful to make a comedy show, ice skating, theater performance, or other show your evening’s centerpiece. Every evening is memorable when you’re spending it together in a dining room or theater with world-class entertainment at hand! So, take a look at the ship’s itinerary before you book. That way you can make sure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck and the most opportunities for special nights. Then, once you’re on the ship, make reservations for all the shows and dinners that you want to attend so that they don’t get booked up in advance.
And entertainment is not just an evening’s event. There’s so many varied, awesome things to do on every ship – like laser tag, rock climbing, and more! What ship is going to give you the most for your day activities? Make sure to take into account your and your partner’s tastes – are you two more athletic? More relaxed? More adrenaline junkies? The entertainment on a ship is a BIG deal, and you’ll thank yourself later for checking out your options ahead of time!
4. Invest in a Balcony Room
There are soooooo many reasons to love the balcony rooms – and we’re just going to cover the ones that make cruising as a couple better. From Norwegian to Royal Caribbean, balconies are always a bit of an upgrade, but we think you’ll love the investment. While some people would say that there’s no reason to upgrade the room that you’ll just be sleeping in, that can actually be a big boon for couples.
First, the upgrade to a balcony room will let you enjoy many wonderful things: the view of the gorgeous ocean, a breezy breakfast overlooking the exotic locale, moonlit evenings discussing the day…. You can see how the openness of a balcony can give you some privacy together without being cramped in a windowless room! While a couples massage or a soak in a hot tub might be romantic, fun, and relaxing, you’ll enjoy being able to escape to your own room with a view.
Second, and more importantly, you’ll be able to spend time alone…and we mean away from your partner. Being forced to spend all of your time together is great for a select number of couples, but most people will enjoy being able to take a break, read a book, or have a snack on the balcony without their partner. And the best part? The break doesn’t have to involve the thousands of other people enjoying the cruise as well.
5. Out with the Phones, In with the Fun!
Not only will you save tons of money, but you’ll also enjoy your time together significantly more if you aren’t wasting it on your phone. Not only is the WiFi on ships pretty much TERRIBLE (as well as terribly expensive), but we spend every day using our phones – there’s no reason to take away from the vacation by checking email, Instagramming, or scrolling through Facebook. Lock up your phone and save the stress – instead, spend that time and money learning something new about your partner! Trust us – it will make a huge difference in your wallet and your vacation!
